Promill's answers to the end of European Sugar quotas

Replacement and capacity Increase for old, existing dryers installed inside narrow buildings

Most of pulp dryers have been installed in the 60's with a single pass design.

As the maintenance costs to remove part of the shell and girth become extremely high, Promill can offer the required expertise and support for the replacement of the single or triple pass drum.

Furthermore, an increase of diameter combined with a lengthening of the drum can contribute to a larger evaporation rate at lower inlet temperatures that would decrease the ignition losses of your product while increasing profitability and quality of beet pulp pellets.

Improvement of thermal Efficiency of the drying equipment combined with a Reduction of dust and gaseous Emissions

The energy cost of beet pulp drying in a sugar factory can reach over 20% of the total energy cost of a sugar factory.

  • Special know-how of Promill in combustors, with its specially designed natural gas burner system helps to comply with NOx and CO emissions.

Design of oil rotating cupel burner, coal and biomass combustion system with the adapted ventilation help to optimize combustion at reduced excess of air levels which positively influences the thermal ratio.

  • Recycle of dryer bleeds off gases and reduces the overall risk of fire and explosion, while reducing the heat consumption of the drying system.

The most efficient way to reduce the overall energy consumption of your beet pulp dryer and manage dryer emission at the same time would be to combining a Promill high temperature rotary dryer with a Promill belt-type pre-drying system where expected reduction of primary energy consumption for an existing system is usually in the range of 20 to 25 %. Alternatively, allowing for some modification of the material handling system, the capacity of an existing dryer could also be increased accordingly.

Increase the Profitability of the drying and pelleting Unit

Capacity and/or yearly operation hours of your system can be increased, following some simple changes to the operation of your drying system such as:

  • The introduction of leaves and tails in the wet beet pulp: this input can bring 10 % more production.
  • Out of season, introducing the drying and pelleting of alfalfa or other products: with minimal changes to the existing equipment, which is likely to work 6 months /year, an optimized sugar beet plant can also process alfalfa out of the beet campaign.

A Promill triple pass drum dryer and the pellet mill can achieve this heavy duty processing of both (leaves and alfalfa), bringing extra revenue to the sugar factory.

Alfalfa fiber can be pelletized in dia 16mm for cattle or converted to flour by a Promill hammer mill before pelletizing in dia 6 mm for animal feed too.

Full control of the operational cost of the machineries

Competitive pellet mills have maintenance costs (dies, rollers, belts, grease…) between 2.40€ and 4€/ton of pellets, whereas Promill pellet mill’s maintenance costs less than 1€/ton.

Cost of a Promill Pellet Mill 10 T/H is paid off within 3 years of extra maintenance of other competing pellet mills.

The belt driving design of the Promill press allows to absorb all hiccups of production and allows an easy control of the machine compared to direct or girth drives which need to be removed after a few campaigns.

In case of upgrade of the machine, a 355kW motor can be installed on the pellet mill to reach a 14T/H pellet production in dia 6mm with steam addition.

As some sugar factories use food oil in order to comply with the animal feed market standards, Promill has designed its ED Rollers to improve sealing process of grease in the rollers, to reduce the consumption of grease by 2 to 3 while increasing the lifetime of the rollers by 20%.
